Old Gold Mountain

Old Gold Mountain (旧金山), the Chinese name given to San Francisco, is a collection of stories told by Asian-Americans who grew up in SF and the larger Bay Area. I published this in hopes that the breadth of these accounts can break down generalizations of Asian families, values, and what it means to be Asian in America.

In this zine, I interviewed friends, coworkers and neighbors on the topic of family. Some of these stories might sound familiar, some foreign. Some, triggering; others can make us laugh. I created a series of illustrations throughout the zine to capture the mood of each person’s story. The use of blue ink against the white page is meant to emulate the colors of Chinese porcelain.
