Brassaï

Visual identity and exhibition graphics
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Warm gray paint colors were chosen for the interior galleries to hold the black and white photos of the French photographer. For the title wall, which is a pretty large expanse, I worked with a local sign fabricator to create the hanging metal letters. Since Brassaï plays with light and shadow frequently in his work, the title wall was spotlighted so that shadows were created from the 3D letters. Sides of the letters were also painted with onyx paint to enhance the shadows. A photo mural was placed right atop the staircase as a welcoming gesture for visitors arriving from the stairs.
